02 Why elementary
The gap opens early. That's where we work.
Kids who fall behind in reading and math in elementary school rarely catch up on their own. Families who can afford it hire a tutor. Families who can't usually go without.
We think the fix is simple: a patient older student, an hour a week, for free.

03 How it works
From sign-up to first session
No cost, no commute, no complicated paperwork. Here's the whole process, start to finish.

A family signs up
A parent fills out a short form: grade, subjects, the times that work, and a few confidential eligibility questions.

We find the right tutor
We match by grade level, subject and schedule. If your child is learning English, we match them with a tutor who speaks their home language, which can take longer.

Regular one-on-one sessions
About an hour, online over Zoom or Google Meet. Parents are welcome to watch any session.

Tutors follow the child's grade-level skills and keep families in the loop as things click.
04 Inside a session
Real lessons, built for one kid at a time.
Every student gets their own tutor and their own plan. Tutors start from what your child is learning in school and what they're finding hard, and adjust from there.
- One tutor, one student. No group classes. Your child has the tutor's full attention for the whole session.
- About an hour, online. Sessions run over Zoom or Google Meet, at times you choose in your own time zone.
- Built around your child. Tell us what they're struggling with on the sign-up form, and the tutor starts there.
- Parents welcome. You can sit in on any session, any time.

Tutoring follows what your child is learning in school, and fills in what they missed along the way.

Is it really free?
Yes. Families never pay anything: no fees, no deposits, no materials to buy. Our tutors are volunteers and our small costs are covered by donations.
Who can sign up for tutoring?
Kindergarten through 5th-grade students from low-income households. The sign-up form asks a few confidential questions (like free or reduced-price lunch) so our limited spots go to the families who need them most. If you're not sure you qualify, apply anyway or email us.
How do sessions work?
Sessions are one-on-one, about an hour long, and held online over Zoom or Google Meet. Each tutor plans around your child’s grade level and the specific skills they need help with. More about sessions.
Where do you tutor?
Anywhere in the world. Every session happens online, so we match tutors and families across countries and time zones. Both sign-up forms ask for your country and time zone, and you pick available hours in your own local time.
Can a parent watch the session?
Please do. Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in on any session. Every tutor completes onboarding that covers how sessions run and how we keep students safe, and agrees to our Code of Conduct.
What does a tutor need to apply?
You need to be a high school or college student, have at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA, a 90 or above in the subject you want to tutor, reliable internet, and one to two hours a week. Full details and the application are here.
