Service hours that mean something

Hours are tracked through our hour log and verified by the Tutor-For-All team. They count toward:

03 Who can apply

Requirements

We hold a high bar because our students deserve great tutors. We updated these for fall 2026.

  • HS or college
    Currently enrolled in high school or collegeHigh school students in grades 9–12 and college or university students are both welcome. Sessions are online, so you can tutor from anywhere in the world.
  • 3.5 GPA
    Minimum unweighted GPAAt least a 3.5 on a 4.0 unweighted scale.
  • 90+
    In the subject you tutorTutoring math? You need a 90 or above in your current or most recent math course. Reading? The same in English/ELA. Both? We look at both.
  • 1–2 hrs
    Each weekScheduled around your availability. Consistency matters more than volume.
  • Online
    Reliable internet and a deviceA computer or tablet you can use for video sessions.

04 What happens next

Application to first session

Four steps. Most of it happens on your own schedule.

  1. Apply

    Fill out the form below: your grades, subjects, availability, and why you want to tutor. It takes about five minutes.

  2. We review

    Our team checks your application and grades, then contacts you within 3–5 school days.

  3. Onboarding

    A training video (about 27 minutes), then a short form: ten questions on how sessions work and how we keep students safe, our Code of Conduct, and your availability. About 40 minutes in all, on your own schedule. Then a quick ten-minute hello video call, or a short video from you if our call times don't work.

  4. Get matched

    We pair you with a K–5 student by grade, subject, schedule and language. Sessions happen over Zoom or Google Meet.

Pick hours in your own local time. We handle the conversion. Checking two hours in a row makes you much easier to match. Outside the US? Open the early-morning and late-evening hours under the grid too.

Apply to become a tutor

Takes about five minutes. Your information is used only to review your application and match you with a student.

Please use your Gmail address. Tutoring calls run on Google Meet, which lets invited Gmail accounts straight in.

Academic Qualifications

On a 4.0 unweighted scale. Our minimum is 3.5, but if you're close, apply anyway.
Current or most recent math course. Required if you're tutoring math; we look for 90 or above.
Current or most recent English/Reading course. Required if you're tutoring reading; we look for 90 or above.

Tutoring Preferences

Pick times in your own local time

Check every time that works for you, in your own local time. Do not convert anything — we handle that.

One thing that matters: check a range, not a single hour. If you can do 4:00–5:00pm, check 5:00–6:00pm too if that also works. Clocks change twice a year in some countries and not others, so a session can shift by an hour. Someone who checks two hours in a row can be matched all year. Someone who checks only one sometimes cannot.

Outside the US, or free very early or late? Add early-morning and late-evening hours

Your own local time again, and only hours you could really do. These mostly help tutors abroad: a weekend morning in Houston is evening in India, and a Houston afternoon is early morning in Asia.
