Our Mission
Tutor-For-All is a student-led nonprofit on a simple mission: make sure that a child's zip code doesn't determine their academic future. We do this by connecting committed high school tutors with K–5 students from low-income families — for free.
Where We Started
Tutor-For-All was founded by students at Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston, Texas — a city where 80% of HISD students come from low-income households, and where access to quality educational support is deeply unequal.
We saw it firsthand: families who wanted to help their children but couldn't afford the $40–$80/hour price tag of private tutoring. Elementary students falling behind in math and reading — not because they weren't capable, but because they didn't have access to the support they needed early enough.
So we built Tutor-For-All to close that gap. We recruit high-performing high school students to tutor younger kids in their own community. Everyone benefits — the student gets free one-on-one support, and the tutor earns volunteer hours, leadership experience, and the lasting satisfaction of making a real difference.

The Book & Sticker Campaign
How we spread the word — and put books in the hands of children who need them.
📚 Spreading the Word Through Books
One of the ways Tutor-For-All reaches families is through our book and sticker distribution campaign. We partner with local donors and organizations — like Books Between Kids and Kindred Stories — to collect and distribute educational books directly to low-income students in the Houston area.
Each donated book comes with a Tutor-For-All sticker that introduces our organization to parents and students. It's a simple but powerful way to let families know that free tutoring support is available to them — right when they're thinking about their child's education.
To date, we've donated over 350 books to children who might otherwise have none at home. Research consistently shows that access to books at home is one of the strongest predictors of reading success — so every book counts.

Who We Serve
Our program is specifically designed for families who have been left behind by the educational system.
Exclusively Serving Low-Income Students
Every resource we have — every tutor session, every donated book, every hour of volunteer time — goes directly to K–5 students from low-income families in the Greater Houston area. We do not charge for any of our services, and we never will. Educational support should not be a luxury. Every child deserves a fair shot.
Early Intervention
We focus on K–5 because gaps in early reading and math are the hardest to close if left unaddressed.
Community-Rooted
Our tutors are from the same Houston community as the students they serve. That shared experience matters.
Always Free
No hidden fees, no waitlists tied to ability to pay. If your family qualifies, we will find a way to help.
Safe & Accountable
All tutors meet strict academic standards. Sessions are conducted online, and parents/guardians are welcome to observe any session.
Our Advocacy Goal
Beyond one-on-one tutoring, Tutor-For-All is committed to raising awareness about educational inequity in Houston and beyond. We partner with schools, community organizations, and local donors to expand our reach and advocate for systemic change. 80% of HISD students come from low-income families — tutoring one child at a time is our contribution to a much larger solution.
Help Us Grow Our Impact
Whether you want to tutor, request tutoring for your child, or support us with a donation — every action helps close the gap.
